Dr. Anthony Overton: Biology Chair Samford University
This week, we’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Anthony Overton, Professor and Department Chair of Biological and Environmental Sciences at Samford University, to The Storied Outdoors.
With a Ph.D. in Marine Estuarine and Environmental Sciences from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and an M.S. in Fisheries Management from the University of Georgia, Dr. Overton brings a wealth of expertise to our conversation. A certified Fisheries Biologist, avid outdoorsman, and champion of Environmental Health and Sustainability Research, Anthony’s work has left a lasting impact in fisheries science.
In addition to his academic career, Dr. Overton serves on the board and is a past president of the Cahaba River Society, an organization dedicated to preserving one of Alabama's most vital waterways. He’s also an active member of the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council, collaborating with fishermen and industry experts to shape sustainable fishing practices across the region.
Dr. Overton has contributed to multiple Technical Working Groups with the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission and served on advisory panels for the International Committee for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas, working to protect these incredible fish species.
