Ben King: Professional Cyclist and Wildlife Photographer

It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.

The Virginia born pro cyclist and wildlife photographer Ben King joins us for a conversation to talk all things outdoors and their impact in his life. When Ben isn’t ascending the mountains on the European cycling tours he lives in Italy with his wife and newborn child. He is what Bryan and I call “our people.” Ben loves to hunt and fish, an admitted birder, and gifted photographer. In this episode we cover his experiences in cycling and how the outdoors has been a space for him to slow down from a profession that is always at full speed. Ben reflects on how birding has genuinely driven him to worship. He recognized that the joys of the outdoors are a gift and joy from God but also a foretaste of the feast that is to come.
